Wandering Again- Safetly?

June has brought forth the venturing out into the world.

May however brought a lot of internal issues, stress, anxiety- and a need to stay away from non-work related media. I find myself sitting here on my last day off for the week, after traveling to Savannah, Georgia typing – wishing I were relaxed. Alas, there’s still plenty of turmoil in the world. COVID isn’t done. Protests, Riots, Looting has me fearing COVID increases. As Columbus reopens, Georgia is not there yet- even though via media it appeared Ohio to be the leader in the COVID forefront, we are reopening far sooner than some other lower case count areas. Why? It was an eye-opening week.

Some restaurants and retail are open but not nearly like Columbus. We had fully planned a week of take out, sitting by the private pool, and outside walks/shopping. Malls in Georgia aren’t opening until 11/12pm and are closing at 6pm. Outside Market areas still have closed retailers. The squares in Savannah were the emptiest I’ve ever seen. We go back two times a year typically. The beach and the outlet mall were the two busiest places we went. For June – Tybee was not busy. I wanted this trip to heal my soul… but it hurt my heart. These small business owners need the tourists. Without them- they cut back open hours, staff, some even closed. We couldn’t eat at our favorite spot as they went to Friday-Monday only and we didn’t expect that. It did mean we tried a few new locations for food. I’ll do a different food specific blog for that.

For someone that uses travel as a way to battle depressive states- this left me wanting to do more travel. It made me want to educate myself more on COVID, Black Lives Matter movements, Pride. So that’s what I’ll do while working on planning the next travel.
